Karma Kagyu
The Karma Kagyu, or Karma Kamtsang, is a sub-school of the Kagyu tradition, and is named after its founder, the Karmapa.
It began in Tibet in the 12th century, and holds its origin from Indian mahasiddha Tilopa, who got the transmission directly from Primordial Buddha Vajradhara (Tib. Dorje Chang). After Tilopa, the teachings and practices had been transmitted via gteat Tibetan masters Naropa, Marpa, Milarepa, and Gampopa, whose student Düsum Khyenpa eventually became the 1st Karmapa.
The current lineage holder is the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Thaye Dorje.
